Bern Cohen
Jeremiah the Gambler - the big loser at the slots who dreams of the jackpot
Bern is a multidimensional talent, having recently appeared on the NY stage in both dramas and musical comedies. He returned to the stage last year in Motke Thief and won the reviewers' praises as the emotional father who cried over the slightest but actually beat up on his daughter's suitor. He also choreographed the five fights that took place on stage in this 100-year old Sholem Ashe play.
Bern followed Motke Thief with the emotional retired Israeli general in the intefada-based drama, Faces of War and as a lead in The HA HA Club, a musical in the 2006 NY Fringe Festival.
During the same time, Bern did such principal roles in currently showing films as a shrink in Therapy, an Imam in Dissonance, and a racist CEO in The Minority, each role playing two-person scenes opposite name performers.
Forthcoming films that have completed post-production also showcase Bern in a variety of very different types. He is a Diamond Center Jeweler playing opposite Freddy Prinze, Jr and Gerry Ferrara (Entourage) in Brooklyn Rules (release 4/07); Lina Olin's agent in Devil You Know (release 5/07), and has his first starring role in Woodhaven Pause (release 9/07) as an abusive father who is hated by his son who eventually must care for his father when Bern's character suffers a stroke.
Bern was a young actor who left the business at age 26 to take on a greater role in parenting two children. He went into education, taught a few years and eventually served for years as a successful high school principal in NYC and Middletown, NY. Four years ago, 2003, he went back to school to study acting-for-the-camera full-time at night while stilllworking his day job as a principal. After two years of study, he retired and sent out his resume with his earlier experiences and his new training and has been non-stop busy ever since.
