The award-winning original star of Broadway’s RENT and AIDA performs modern rock and classic Broadway songs
ADAM PASCAL, the award-winning original star of Broadway’s RENT and AIDA, as well as the 2006 feature film “RENT,” comes to the Shubert Theater in New Haven for a one-night-only concert engagement on Saturday, January 19 at 8pm. Pascal performs his original modern rock songs from his solo albums, Model Prisoner and Civilian, as well as his personal interpretations of Broadway songs, old and new. This intimate concert features Adam Pascal on guitar, bass and vocals, accompanied by a keyboard player/backup vocalist.
Although he started as a rock musician, Pascal became drawn to the musical theater. In 1996, at the suggestion of a friend–who at the time was dating Idina Menzel, Pascal auditioned for the role of Roger in the off-Broadway production of RENT. He was cast and had no idea what it would all lead to. His performance in RENT earned him a 1996 Tony Award nomination, a Theater World award and an Obie Award. He left the show on November 2nd, 1997, but went on to play Roger in the London production of RENT. Most recently, Pascal returned to Broadway to star as Roger Davis in RENT from July 30 to October 7, 2007.
His award-winning role in RENT helped Pascal gain fame on Broadway and in 2000 he was cast in the hit musical AIDA written by Elton John and Tim Rice. In the lead role of Radames (original and final cast), critics heralded his moving performance for which he was also honored with a Drama League Award. Following AIDA, Pascal was invited by the Roundabout Theater Company to be the final Emcee in their groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of CABARET, and in 2004 he was invited back to reprise his role for the closing weeks of AIDA.
Adam Pascal returned to his rock musician roots with a solo recording contract on Sh-K-Boom Records. Shortly after opening in AIDA, he released his first solo CD Model Prisoner followed by Civilian in 2004. Pascal is currently working on his third solo album, expected to be released in early 2008.
After establishing himself as a multifaceted talent with his work in musical theater and his own music, Adam Pascal then went on to conquer the big screen in the Paramount runaway comedy “The School of Rock” starring Jack Black, in 2003. In 2005 Adam returned to his musical theater roots with his portrayal of Roger in the motion picture of “RENT,” directed by Chris Columbus. Pascal just completed the lead in the movie “Goyband” in which he stars as a former boy-band icon who is booked to play a show at a Kosher hotel, but ends up shocking the guests with his sexy show.
